About Oldham Weather

Welcome to my blog about the weather in Manchester and its surrounding boroughs.

The blog gives a 4-day forecast released on a Wednesday for the following Thursday to Sunday with a sneak-peek ahead.

The weather station is a Vantage Pro 2 and is located in Chadderton, Oldham and monthly statistics and graphs will be shown on here.

Live weather data can be found at Live Weather From Oldham and of course there is a Twitter account, @ChadWeather, so feel free to give it a follow for a personalised local weather forecast.

Thanks for visiting.

Cheers
Jon

  1. Hi Jon

    Interesting reading your weather blogs.

    I wondered if you had any statistical information for the weather in Saddleworth over the past weekend when the remnants of Bertha went through the area. I am most interested in the wind speed so if you are able to provide this information I would be grateful.

    Many thanks

    Alan

    • Hi,

      My station had these wind speeds;

      SAT: 23mph
      SUN: 34mph
      MON: 36mph

      I would expect Saddleworth to be higher. If you search Wunderground on Google for stations there is one for Saddleworth but it’s lower(!) but one in Diggle is higher than Saddleworth.

      SADDLEWORTH: http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=ILANCASH108#history/s20140811/e20140811/mdaily

      The Diggle ones were;

      SAT: 20mph
      SUN: 23mph
      MON: 31mph

      But as with both stations I haven’t a clue where the stations are located, they could be sheltered somewhat by houses. Mine is on the roof.

      I would suggest in exposed places on Saddleworth you would be talking 40mph+. If you tweet @CraigMDale (Head of Highways at Oldham Council) he has access to other weather stations including the one on Windy Hill (M62) so would be a good source. In fact I will tweet him for you and get back to you.

      Thanks for the kind words. Hope this helps.

      Cheers
      Jon

      • Hi Jon

        Think I might have already sent a reply but don’t know if it actually went so here goes.

        Then information you supplied is very interesting and if you can get the details from Windy Hill that would be great.

        Many thanks

        Alan

      • Wow!!

        Thanks for the quick reply.

        I will keep a close watch on your forecasts in future and the links to the Wunderground sites are helpful.

        Once again many thanks

        Alan
